Tehkummah Talk and Times

Reta VanHorn is a great-granny. Congratulations to the families!

Fred and Carolyn Hunter have a new great-grandson as well. Congratulations! Track has a new little brother named Trapper who was born this week.

Gosh, I’ve been tired lately, can’t be because I’m old, ha! It just seems there is so much to do and not enough hours in a/my day any more. If I could eliminate a few of my nap times!

Our cribbage is back on schedule. We had four and a half tables on Wednesday. Three high hands of 20, Cal, Mary and Bill; first place, Bert and Joy, 955; second place, Mary and Jean (Mum), 907; third place, Lori and Rick, 906; low, Bill and Betty Jean, 864; door, Lois. Lots of good snacks provided by Mum, Lori and Joy. I made my first rhubarb squares of the season.

Went to the laundromat on Thursday afternoon. Had a picnic there all by myself. Thought I might starve to death. Bought a cooked chicken and some buns at the grocery store. First met Lynda Garniss, back from their trip to see family. Sounded busy. Then if I didn’t see Laura Scott and Sissy Pat at the store. I almost followed them home. Laura was lamenting as the monitor was correcting her shopping. It had been ages since we’d spoken, though Laura is good to keep in touch. I also walked through Laura Martin’s nice garden. She made me a cup of coffee and we had a little visit.

Tara is busy trying to get the old pond liner out. Me, I just putter around and get time in, out in the yard.

Talked to Cal on the phone this Friday morning. He is not feeling very well. Has a sore throat/hoarse.

Tara and I went to the Garden Shed for our breakfast on Tuesday morning. Then admired flowers (shopped a little).

Friday afternoon I slept and slept, also had a sore throat and bad tummy gas. Must be something in the air.

Laura came along on Saturday morning. We went to Rainbow Gardens and admired all the pretty flowers there. She shopped a lot, me a little. Then back down the highway to the Garden Shed for our breakfast where we met up with Sherry. Saw Yogi and Tracy, and Marj and Bert who are back for the summer. Laura did more shopping at JDs. A nice visit and much more admiring.

Well didn’t our Elvis also have a sore throat, but he sure still could hit the low notes. A very personable Elvis, good line of patter, and a good replica. Raymond Corbierre presented him with an Eagle feather after a song was sung in Violet’s memory. They had some extra entertainers to help save Elvis’ voice. He rode in on a motorcycle! I really enjoyed the show. I met a nice lady at the door who’s last name had been Hall (Barb?). Mary Murdock too, had a nice conversation with her. If Elvis is doing more shows in your area, you should see him. I want to hear the whole story about the motorcycle, the van, the trailer, the money, the dreams!

The Jr. UCW hosted a pancake breakfast this Sunday morning at the Tehkummah hall. They had a fair/steady crowd. Great to grab hugs from Iona Petersen. Carol Hughes made it for breakfast. She was driving from Elliot Lake this morning. She sat with Mum and I as she was on her own. Everybody chatting, she had a hard time getting her breakfast. I think it’s great how she gets around! She was heading for the Decoration Day services at the Monument Corner this afternoon.

Talk about forgetful! Susan just phoned from Helen’s where there was a music afternoon which I (as usual) completely forgot about! Sorry, hate to miss ‘em!

Just finished getting beat by Mum at cribbage again! Don’t forget cribbage on Wednesday at the hall, starts at 1:30 pm. C’mon out and bring a partner! We always have fun.

A wee hummingbird hit the window as I’m writing here. It made quite a thump. They move so fast. The orioles are still around.

Pretty well on schedule. May 29—The June Bugs are fanning the window screen tonight. I hate the things. If you’ve ever had one stick on your hand or any other part for that matter. Creepy/sticky, yuck!

I almost got to euchre in time on Thursday evening but ended up letting Mum beat me at cribbage.

Drove down to my camp garden one evening hoping I would spot a morel or two. Pauline and family found some earlier in the week. All I found was very dry bush. Columbine in bloom. Babes in the baskets (fringed polygala) and squirrel corn (not the real name).

Sunday darned if I didn’t hit a monarch butterfly. Rare as they are, and swallowtail butterflies and the lilac blooms coordinated perfectly this year on their togetherness. This week black cherry. Cherry and apple blossoms too. Dandelion puffs already yet.

Well our minister does the greatest job with his sermons. Today on Environment—protecting all that is sacred. The wonderful earth God made for us.

Well didn’t we have an Elvis sighting down at Carol’s and Earl’s Restaurant this morning. Burt and Audrey joined our table—Martin, Lynda, Mom, Mary, Pauline and Wayne.
