Larry Killens grades performance of incumbent MPP

To the Expositor:

Here we are, thrown under the bus, set to endure another provincial election with all the political rhetoric that goes with it—depressing enough to follow a federal election next year. Counting? Nine elections in total, both federal and provincial, since year 2000. What have we learned?

A Google search tells me it is at a cost each time in excess of 94 millions of dollars! (2011 figure) Money not spent on education, health and other needs and we, the persons who put the money there, will not reap any benefits.

Andrea Horvath, leader of the NDP, “pulled the trigger” so to speak, to start the certainty for the need of an election and expenditure of taxpayer money.

As this paper is one of the most important vehicles by which we citizens share our news, views and thoughts, I respectfully ask to share mine with you.

In the budget, examples of promises that served to excite me personally, were increased taxing of people who make in excess of 150,000 dollars! That means no one on the Island will get hurt with that for sure.

For the third time, legislation giving the ability of the Ombudsman to investigate any issues citizens have with Children’s Aid Society (CAS) has died on the table, again for a third time. As a result, sadly, children’s services escape a democratic review.

In addition, legislation to give the Ombudsman the authority to review educational concerns of parents died as well on the table.

Most of the contents of the proposed budget were to the liking of the NDP, conceded by Andrea Horvath. She voted, for what she termed, a good reason. That reason was that she can’t trust the Liberals to carry out their budget promises as proven in history. Our local serving member, Mike Mantha, agrees with this direction by default?

Our voice here in the North, Mike Mantha, who does talk a good plan and program, but seldom proactive action, was given a calling/job/mandate by us to keep the government honest and keep to their promises by any means at their (NDP) disposal. They (NDP) have failed badly and failed to keep their promises to keep the government on track. Their answer to correct the government is at a cost of estimated 94 million dollars to us.

In my area our MPP serves, or lack of it, I have promised him a report card on his activity in relation to education and that is an F-. I would be pleased to share documented evidence as to why this assessment.

My question is, why did she do it now? My answer is, the sad legacy of Dalton McGuinty is still alive and fresh in our minds and this only helps Andrea Horvath believe in her mind she can win. Is it reasonable for us to prove to Andrea, “Get along with others Andrea Horvath, because Wynne has put all you could hope for or want in the budget and we want her to have a chance?” Let us let the existing, while not the worst case, scenario live on to prove these budgets items live. If your prediction does come to pass then make your move!

Bottom line is: if you win only because Ontarians vote for you at 94 million dollars, the only thing different is the face and not the budget items.

Please remember, governments are elected by people who fail to go out and vote!
