United Church Mothers’ Day plant sale a blooming success

LITTLE CURRENT—The smiles were sunny even if the weather was a little overcast at the annual Little Current United Church Mother’s Day Plant Sale as bustling gardeners swarmed over a large selection of perennials and shrubberies just in time for spring planting.

“It has been very busy all morning,” beamed organizer Wendy Gauthier of Little Current. “We are very happy with how things are going.” The plant sale raised approximately $3,200 over the course of the sale.

Ms. Gauthier also had a display on hand for the Plant a Row, Grow a Row program previously reported in The Expositor. Registrants with the program plant a little extra in their gardens for the season and donate the resulting produce to the Manitoulin Good Food Box Program.

Seeds for the planting are donated by Plant a Row, Grow a Row’s corporate sponsors and the program itself is hosted by the Compost Council of Canada and the Garden Writers Association. There is also an opportunity for junior gardeners to get in on the action with a youth program sponsored by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Garden Writers Association.

More information on the Plant a Row, Grow a Row program can be found online at growarow.org or by contacting Ms. Gauthier at 705-368-3247 or by email at mwgauthier@sympatico.ca.
