ORIEN ALBERT CORBIERE

September 20, 1958 – January 14, 2012

Orien A Corbiere began his journey to the spirit world on January 14, 2012. He was well-known and respected for sharing his passion of Anishinaabemowin especially its morphology. He taught Anishinaabemowin in classrooms, through cultural camps, and also on the worldwide web. He was employed full-time with the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians; he worked with the Pottawatomi Nation of Wisconsin as well as other organizations. He also had many other interests, he enjoyed woodworking, loved music, very tech savvy, cooking (i.e. bbq), travelling, and visiting his many friends and making new ones along the way. Orien was predeceased by parents Mabel M. (nee Pitawanakwat) and Paul G. Corbiere, also predeceased by sisters Rosalind Shigwadja and Ellen M. Migwans. Survived by his beloved partner Dollie Keeway of Kinchloe, Michigan. Also survived by his sisters; Gertrude Shawanda of Birch Island, Veronica A Corbiere, Caroline Corbiere, Nancy Corbiere (Ken Ireland), Shirley Kaiser (Klaus), brothers; Archie Corbiere (Hilda), Alvin (Ted) Corbiere (predeceased Angeline), and George L. Corbiere, followed by his godchildren Kirby Corbiere, and Joanne Corbiere, all of M’Chigeeng First Nation, Ontario, Canada. He will be sadly missed by all of his siblings, his many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family, students and friends. As for everyone who have had the chance to know this wonderful man, will know that there was never a dull moment with Orien. Rested on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Niigaanigiizhik Building, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Resting on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at his home in M’Chigeeng, immediate family only, please respect family’s wishes. Resting on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Saswaahns Spiritual Centre, 44 Tikmeg Road, M’Chigeeng, Ontario until the funeral service at the Immaculate Conception Church, M’Chigeeng at 11 am on Friday, January 20, 2012.
