Roadside bust nets $120,000 in drugs


HEARST –On March 18, 2014, shortly before 10:00 pm, a joint investigation involving the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) Drug Enforcement Unit, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) Drug Enforcement Unit and Hearst OPP officers resulted in a roadside drug seizure along Hwy 11 in Kendall Township, just east of the town of Hearst, Ontario.

Police investigators intercepted a West bound 2004 Buick Rendez-Vous Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and subsequently conducted a search where they discovered a large cash of illegal drugs concealed within the vehicle occupied by one female and two male passengers.

6,004 Methamphetamine pills, 25 grams of Cannabis Marihuana and three Oxycodone pills worth a combined street value of $120,000 were seized from the SUV during the roadside stop.

As a result of the police investigation, 40 year old male Sydney Michel EMOND, 54 year old male Patrice THERRIAULT and 31 year old female Elsa MOORE, all of Hearst, Ontario, have been arrested and charged with 11 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences and two Criminal Code offences collectively. The offences include three counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams, three counts of Trafficking in Schedule I Substance-Other Drugs, two counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Other Drugs, all contrary to the CDSA, and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused, Sydney Michel EMOND and Elsa MOORE were held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on March 19, 2014 and still remain in custody. Patrice THERRIAULT was also held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on March 19, 2014 but has since been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst on April 2, 2014.
