SOUTH PORCUPINE – The South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid drug related charges against an Iroquois Falls resident stemming from a routine traffic stop on March 23rd at Highway 101 in Mountjoy Township, west of Timmins.
A South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police officer had occasion to stop the driver of a passenger vehicle for an alleged traffic violation.
The driver was stopped and interviewed at the roadside. A standard licence verification revealed that the driver of the 2000 Pontiac passenger vehicle was suspended in the province of Ontario pursuant to two separate suspensions.
The driver was arrested and a cursory search was undertaken by the OPP officer.
As a result of this search, the OPP officer located and seized 29 Methamphetamine tablets and $830.00 in cash.
The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is pegged at $290.00
Robert MORRISETTE, 23, of Iroquois Falls, Ontario, has been charged with:
- – one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
- – one count of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
- – two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- – two counts of Drive While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
The accused was held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing at Provincial Court in Timmins slated for this morning (March 24th ) in answer to the charges laid against him.
The vehicle has been impounded by the OPP.
