OPP seize contraband cigarettes from traffic stop

PARRY SOUND – On February 14, 2014 at approximately 8:50 p.m. members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 69 in Archipelago Township, just north of Pointe-au-Baril. Police observed a strong smell of Marijuana coming from the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were subsequently arrested and the vehicle was searched. Upon further investigation at the scene, a small quantity of Marijuana was located as well as 41,204 contraband cigarettes.

As a result of the search, Jaclyn RIZZI, 28 years of age, and Mark MARACLE, 27 years of age, both from Hamilton were charged with Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes and Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for the Purpose of Sale contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act. They will appear before the Provincial Offences Court on April 29, 2014.

MARACLE was also charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana – Under 30 grams contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Parry Sound on March 6, 2014 to answer to this charge.
