To the Expositor:
In response to the three letters to the Expositor (July 13, July 20 and July 27) questioning the motives of the Board of Manitoulin Community Living, I encourage individuals who have concerns to join the General Membership of Community Living, and express themselves in a more appropriate forum where their questions can be discussed and addressed in a meaningful context. As a former Board Member of Manitoulin Community Living, I can assure you that there are many points of view that must be considered, but above all, the clients’ safety and well being is the Board’s foremost priority.
Those who are on the General Membership list can then put their names forward for a position on the Board where there will be plenty of opportunity to wrestle with how to implement ministry mandates in the most prudent manner. Be prepared to put in countless volunteer hours of your personal time with very little positive feedback from members of the public who are not privy to confidential information, or full disclosure, for the protection of clients and staff. Without the proper context, there is bound to be misunderstandings.
