OPP charge assaultive impaired driver

MATHESON – An officer with the Matheson OPP has arrested and charged an Ottawa man for impaired driving and other criminal offences stemming from a traffic stop on Hwy 11 within the town of Matheson late yesterday afternoon (08 Jan).

While conducting traffic patrol of Hwy 11, in the Matheson area, an OPP officer had occasion to observe a 2004 Ford pickup truck allegedly being driven in an erratic fashion.

The driver was stopped by the OPP officer.

Based on the altercation with the driver at the roadside, Luc LAPLANTE, 30, of Ottawa, Ontario, has been charged with:

–       Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
–       Refuse to Provide Breath Sample contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
–       Resist Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
–       Assault Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
–       Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
–       Driving Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

The accused has been held for a bail hearing scheduled for this morning (09 Jan) at Provincial Court, in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against him.
