It certainly has been a frigid start to this New Year. I hope all your frozen pipes have thawed and you are enjoying the milder temperatures. The bald eagles flying over our house on the south shore do not seem to mind the cold weather. They are spectacular to watch soaring over the bay to the mouth of the river for a quick catch of rainbow trout.
The Christmas lights and decorations on the houses and businesses were exquisite this year. Everyone seemed to just step it up a notch. Driving around the towns and neighbourhoods gave us a smile and a few ooohs and aaahs!
The annual Providence Bay and Spring Bay Lions Club New Year’s Eve dance was a great success. The attendance was down a little this year due to the inclement weather. Island Music Showcase DJ services out of M’Chigeeng provided the music and had the crowd dancing to every tune. Everyone seemed to enjoy the lunch spread of roast beef, ham, pork and turkey with many salads, veggies, cheese and lots of cookies. Designated drivers were available ensuring everyone got home safely.
It is back to school for our young people and back to work for the rest of us! We hope those who have left the Island for sunnier climes are having a good time. Perhaps when you return to the Island you could bring some warm temperatures with you.
On December 30 Brett Deeg celebrated his 16th birthday with a trip to Espanola with Nana Sherri. He enjoyed a Chinese dinner and a visit with Aunt Shelley. A big 6th birthday party was held on Saturday, January 4 for Tieren Noble-Stone. Happy Birthday to Brett and Tieren. Belated birthday wishes to Laura W. Scott and Sharlene Kay.
Our thoughts and good wishes to Terry Thompson who fell and broke her wrist during the Christmas season and Sara Meunier who fell and broke her wrist while skating. Our best wishes are sent to Pat and Don Burke while Don is still on the mend.
We extend sincere condolences and sympathy to the Belton family in the passing of Rick, the Cranston family in the passing of Thomas Sr. and the Anderson family in the passing of Jerry. Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.
Mindemoya Euchre Tournament is Thursday, January 9 at 8 pm. Bring your partner and see you there!
Mindemoya Minor Hockey has started again after the Christmas break. Novice is Thursday at 6:30 pm, peewee is Thursday at 8 pm, bantam is Sunday at 6:30 pm and midget is Sunday at 8 pm. Come out and support the young players. They always enjoy the cheers from the crowd.
The Pearson Cup Hockey Tournament is this weekend, Friday, January 10, Saturday, January 11 and Sunday, January 12 in Providence Bay. There is always great hockey to watch this weekend. If you can volunteer please give Steve Orford a call at 705-377-4349.
