January 29, 1947 – January 3, 2014
In loving memory of Tom Cranston, a resident of Providence Bay, who died suddenly at his residence on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the age of 66 years. He was born in Spring Bay, son of the late Hilton and Alma (Lanktree) Cranston. Tom had worked for 14 years in the mines for Rio Algom in Elliot Lake and at INCO in Sudbury for two years, but eventually the Island drew him back, to do what he liked to do best, work in the bush, hunt and fish and tend to his garden. Tom was a very helpful member of his community, willing to help whenever called upon. He loved his family, and his grandchildren were of the utmost importance to him. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Tom will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but many memories will be cherished. Dearly loved husband of Charlotte (Harnum) Cranston of 44 years. Loving father of Tom Jr. and his wife Caroline of Spring Bay, Lisa and husband Brian Schell of Sudbury, Dave and fiance Jane of Little Current and Shawn and his girlfriend Tiffany of Cambridge. Proud grandfather of Michael, Christine, Rhylee and Joshua. Dear brother of Pauline Van Every and husband Bill, Wilamine Fishwick and husband Bob, Robert and his wife Doris, Michael and his wife Shirley and Nan Buie and her husband Wendell. Also survived by sister-in-law Shirley Cranston. Predeceased by brothers John and Fred and sister Margaret and brother in-law Bobby Mason. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends called at the Culgin Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 after 7 pm. The funeral service to celebrate Tom’s life will be conducted in the Wm. G. Turner Chapel on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 11 am. Cremation to follow. If so desired, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
