Town of Gore Bay inches closer to new nursing home

GORE BAY—Another step has been taken by the Town of Gore Bay and St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre on the development of the new nursing home in Gore Bay.

“We are waiting for the ministry province to give its final approval for the project,” stated Gore Bay Mayor Ron Lane at a council meeting last week. “The fact that the provincial election was held didn’t help (as approvals were delayed with the government in a shutdown mode) in getting this started.”

Mayor Lane pointed out all the required fees have been paid by St. Joseph’s Health Centre, and with this the building permit has been released by the town.

“When St. Joseph’s takes over the town will become the owner (of the current Manitoulin Lodge Nursing Home),” said Mayor Lane. “The town in the next two years will have to decide what to do with the building (Manitoulin Lodge) what it will be used for and be putting out a request for expression of interest by the end of year.”
