MINDEMOYA—For the past three years, Cindy’s Fashions in Mindemoya have hosted fashion shows twice a year—harnessing the catwalk to raise funds for the Manitoulin Health Centre and the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary.
“Over the last three years we have donated over $10,000 to the hospital,” said Cindy’s Fashions owner Cindy Wright. “All proceeds go to the auxiliary and ‘upstairs’ (Manitoulin Health Centre). We split it up because the auxiliary helps us too.” On this particular occasion, the cheque being presented is for $2,252.50.
“That’s fantastic,” said Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary president Margaret Cadieux in accepting the cheque.
“It’s important to support our hospital, so we never lose it,” she said. “Some people say we will never lose our hospital, you can’t say that.”
“Sudbury can’t afford to lose these Island hospitals,” said Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary treasurer Mary Alice Lewis. “They don’t have the facilities to take us all there and do what these two little hospitals do.”
“I had to go in December and the service was amazing, amazing, amazing,” said Ms. Lentir.
The funds are raised through the sale of tickets to the fashion show.
“We have had amazing support from the community,” noted Ms. Wright.
“There is another fashion show coming up May 24,” she said. “Again, all proceeds will be going to the hospital and the auxiliary.”
