Wiikwemkoong will act as 2026 Little NHL hosts

WIIKWEMKOONG—Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT), which fielded many teams at the 51st annual Little Native Hockey League (LNHL) tournament in Markham last week, will be the host of the annual tournament the next two years.

“Good afternoon, we are live from Markham, the site of the 51st annual LNHL tournament,” stated Wiikwemkoong Chief Tim Ominika, in a Facebook post on March 9.

Chief Ominika noted that the opening ceremonies for the tournament had just concluded, then he delivered the good news to the Wiikwemkoong community. At the opening ceremonies, “It was announced that Wiikwemkoong will be hosting this tournament for the next two years.” He made the announcement in the company of Chico Ralf, president of the LNHL, Wiikwemkoong band council members, family members of local LNHL players and a couple of community volunteers.
