Joan Olive Turley (Nee Tester)


Joan Olive Turley (nee Tester) of Elgin Manor, St. Thomas passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family at her late residence on Monday, December 9, 2013 in her 94th year. Predeceased by her much loved husband Cyril Turley (1993) and loving mother of Ian (Betty Ann) of St. Thomas, Anne Haycock (late Wilfred) of St. Thomas, Gail Turley of St. Thomas, Lynne (Morley) Winter of Port Stanley and Jan (Laurie) of Manitoulin Island. She is the loving Nana of 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her grandson Duane “Turk” Turley (2008) and by several brothers and sisters in England. She was born February 5, 1920 in Sussex, England, the daughter of the late Robert and Frances Alice Tester. Prior to residing at the Elgin Manor Joan lived in St. Thomas and in Stratford. She was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church where she was involved with the Chancel Guild and the choir. She was a longstanding member of the Stratford Humane Society and was a former long distance driver for the Stratford Neighbourly Services. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St Thomas where public visitation will be held Friday, December 13, 2013 from 2 pm to 4 pm, followed by a private family service. Cremation to follow with interment of ashes in the spring. Donations may be made to the Perth County Humane Society, Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Elgin Manor Recreational Program.
