Santa Claus is coming to Manitoulin in upcoming parades

MANITOULIN—It’s that time of year again for beautiful displays of Christmas lights and the big man in red, riding his sleigh and spreading holiday cheer across Manitoulin in the communities’ various Christmas parades.

The fun starts this weekend in Little Current at the annual Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, December 14 starting at 6 pm.

The route will go up Meredith Street to Red Mill Road, from Red Mill Road to Robinson Street, down Robinson Street and end downtown on Water Street.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will have their sleigh parked downtown following the parade for visiting, hot chocolate and caroling at the cenotaph.

The Christmas couple will also be making their rounds throughout Little Current looking for the best decorated homes. The top home will receive $50, followed by $25 for second and third, sponsored by Har-Cor Diesel. To register your home call the town office at 705-368-3500.

In Gore Bay, the Santa Claus Parade will kick off on Saturday, December 21 at 7:30 pm.

Participants are asked to meet at C.C. McLean Public School at 7 pm. The parade route will head north from the school to Dawson Street, west on Dawson Street, south on Phipps Street, west on Eleanor Street, south on Laird Street, east on Main Street, north on Water Street, west on Dawson Street, south on Meredith Street and back to C.C. McLean Public School.

Following the parade there will be a big bonfire at the pavilion.

The town is also holding a window-decorating contest for Gore Bay businesses. Those wishing to participate are asked to contact the town at 705-282-2420 to register. The results of the contest will be announced after the parade with a $50 first place prize.
