MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Island curler Jordan Chandler was asked to join a Thunder Bay rink at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships, held earlier this month.
“The team from Thunder Bay, the (Dylan) Johnston team from the Fort William Curling Club, had asked me to play on the rink for the mixed championships,” Mr. Chandler told The Expositor last week. He explained the team’s skip, Dylan Johnston, had to withdraw from the event due to medical problems.
Mr. Johnston, “Has been to the Island a couple of times playing in the men’s provincials,” said Mr. Chandler.
Mr. Chandler, who had played in the Canadian Mixed Championship in 2010, filled in as second on the Thunder Bay rink which represented Northern Ontario at this year’s event, held in Thunder Bay. Chris Briand was the skip, with vice Samantha Morris and lead Marcy Barry.
“It was a lot of fun to play in this event, and on this team,” said Mr. Chandler. “I played second, which is not my normal position. Sweeping for a week-long event was challenging, but a lot of fun! It’s always great to wear the green and gold colours for Team Northern Ontario.”
The rink finished with a record of five wins and four losses. “We lost a couple of extra end games that would have had us in the playoffs,” said Mr. Chandler.
