Last week, from Monday, November 4 to Friday, November 8, MSS acknowledged Treaty Recognition Week with a series of educational videos played each morning in homeroom classes. These videos aimed to raise awareness about the history of Canadian treaties and the role they play. The information provided students with a deeper understanding of the agreements made between Indigenous peoples and the government and highlighted the importance of honouring treaties and respecting the rights and cultures and Indigenous communities.
November can be a gloomy month, but the Headstrong group at MSS has found a way to lift everyone’s spirits. Headstrong, a school club that promotes mental health awareness, launched a photo contest called “Find the Joy.” This initiative encourages students to submit photos that capture moments or scenes that bring them joy. The goal is to create a positive atmosphere and remind everyone to find happiness in everyday moments, despite the dreariness of the season. Each student is allowed one entry, and the photos can be submitted to Ms. Macneil via email. The contest runs until December 10, and there are exciting prizes up for grabs for the best entries.
The MSS gymnastics team is back in action! The return of this extracurricular is highly anticipated. Starting Monday, November 11, students are invited to join the MSS gymnastics team. Whether they are competitive gymnasts or just looking for a fun way to stay fit and flexible, all students are welcome.
Last week also saw the start of tryouts for the senior girls’ volleyball team and the junior boys’ basketball team. The senior girls’ volleyball tryouts were held on Wednesday, November 6 and Friday, November 8. The tryouts attracted many participants, all eager to secure a spot on the team. Similarly, the junior boys’ basketball tryouts took place on Thursday, November 7. These tryouts are important for creating teams that will represent the school in upcoming competitions. Good luck, Mustangs!
That is all for this week! Until next time, go, Mustangs, go!
