Well it is still fall but it sure feels like winter! Everyone walking the boardwalk along the sand dunes in Providence Bay is bundled up for the brisk winds. Let’s think positive as it is only four months to April!
Ladies’ Night in Mindemoya was very well attended. Most of the businesses were open with many specials, prizes, draws and excellent snacking food. Foodland had their Christmas Moonlight Madness again with lots of samples to enjoy, prizes and draws. Congratulations to Sherri Gilpin who won the two-minute shopping spree and many others in the community who took home a prize, including this writer!
Good wishes and thoughts are extended to our friends and neighbours still in hospital or just not feeling well. Please remember to check their driveways and homes.
The junior curlers at the Providence Bay Curling Club had a pajama party on Saturday. The children came to their lessons in their favourite pjs, have teddy bear rides on the rocks and yummy teddy bear cookies. It was great fun for all! The club held a “learn to curl” program on Friday night for adults.
The Providence Bay arena is open for public skating, hockey and private rentals. Adults and children enjoyed a game of scrimmage after public skating on Sunday afternoon.
The deer hunt is over for another year. All the deer in our yard have relaxed now and are back at the feeders!
The Journey to Bethlehem held in Mindemoya is this weekend along with Mindemoya’s Christmas evening of shopping on December 6. Remember to shop locally and support your Island businesses. There are many B&Bs and motels open year round for your visitors to the Island.
On Saturday about 105 Red Hat ladies made their way to the seniors hall in Tehkummah. The hall was decorated for Christmas and the ladies all looked so nice in their red hats and purple dresses. The ladies enjoyed a delicious dinner with Christmas pudding for dessert. The music was provided by Robbie Shawanda from Wikwemikong. Many Central Manitoulin ladies were there to enjoy the party.
Toots and Murray McDermid took a trip to Espanola on Thursday where they saw their longtime friends, Murray Beacock and his wife. The Beacocks used to own the Home Hardware store in Elliott Lake.
Blair Sullivan was very happy on Sunday night when Saskatchewan Roughriders won the Grey Cup. Blair’s relatives in Regina attended the game.
