Spooky goings on in communities across Manitoulin Island

MANITOULIN—It’s ghosts and goblins time again! Get ready to get your spooky on this coming Hallowe’en with events going on across the Island.

This Saturday, downtown Little Current invites little guys and ghouls to come trick or treating from 1 to 3 pm.

Central Manitoulin Lions Club is once again hosting a Haunted Trail, ‘Phantoms of the Forest,’ at the Pioneer Museum (2207 Highway 551) in Mindemoya on October 26 starting at 6 pm and ending at 10 pm—$5 at the gate.

The Trail of Terror is back at 55 Johnny’s Park Drive in M’Chigeeng. The trail is open to all children in M’Chigeeng with tickets available at the family resources office. The dates are October 24 from 6 to 9 pm, October 25 from 7 to 10 pm and October 27 from 6 to 9 pm.

The Assiginack Curling Club will be hosting a Hallowe’en Dance on Saturday, October 26, starting at 8 pm. Costumes are strongly encouraged and there is a cash prize for the best costume. This is a 19-plus event with an entrance fee of $10. All proceeds will be put back towards helping the curling club. The fun includes a bar, DJ, snacks and, of course, lots of dancing.

Vance and Nicole’s Hallowe’en Stag and Doe takes place in M’Chigeeng, Saturday, October 26 from 9 pm to 1 am at the M’Chigeeng Community Complex—music by DJ Drew. Costumes are strongly encouraged with prizes for the best costumes. Each ticket puts your name in to win the $600 value door prize—the always popular YETI booze cooler. Support tickets available $10/spot. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177 in Little Current is hosting a Hallowe’en Dance on Saturday, October 26 from 9 pm to 1 am. This is a licenced event, so age of majority only please. $10 per person.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177 in Little Current is hosting a Kids’ Hallowe’en Dance on Saturday, October 26 from 6 pm to 8 pm. There will be prizes to be won and admission is $5 at the door.

On Sunday, October 27, Sheshegwaning is hosting a Hallowe’en Farmers’ Market from 11 am to 3 pm. There will be prizes for best costume, adults and youth, so come dressed to impress! For more information contact (705) 283-3292.

Also on Sunday, Assiginack is having a Haunted Hustle fun run or walk race starting at 10 am. The Haunted Hustle is a 1K or 5K walk or run around Manitowaning. Entry fee is $5 for the 1K or $15 for the 5K with proceeds to the Manitoulin Food Bank and MSS Food Locker. Dress up and get hustling! To register email jwhite@assiginack.ca.

Wiikwemkoong is hosting a Hallowe’en Street Carnival on October 30 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the mini-mall. There will be devilish foods, spooktacular treats and ghoulish drinks. Costume prizes with five catagories including toddler, child, teen, adult and couple. An ATV/SXS Parade starts out from the Amikook Centre at 6 pm with a hunter’s package grand prize is up for grabs. Buzwah Variety and Toys in Wiikwemkoong is hosting its Sixth Annual Pumpkin Inferno, a spooktacular event October 25 to 31, 7 pm to 10 pm at 922 Wikwemikong Way. Get out your creepy, magical and/or otherworldly costume for the annual contest sponsored by local community members. Visit their Facebook page for a colouring contest download and return your work to Buzwah Variety and Toys before October 26 to win great prizes.

On Monday, October 28, M’Chigeeng is hosting a Halloween Family Dance at the outdoor rink from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. There will be snacks, games, prizes and costumes are, of course, encouraged.

And last but certainly not least, go trick or treating in this week’s paper! There are 20 “candies” hidden throughout the ad of this week’s Expositor. Head to Page 16 for a handy form to fill out for your chance to win one of three spooky prizes!
