Press Release: Little Current drinking water advisory for the next several days

TOWN OF NORTHEASTERN MANITOULIN AND THE ISLANDS

September 5, 2024

As of 4:00 p.m. today water service was restored to the Town of Little Current; however, the water being provided cannot be considered potable and is not considered safe to drink.  As a result, the users of the system will be under a Drinking Water Advisory for the next several days.  During this time, samples of the water from the distribution system will be analysed to assess the quality of the water in the system and ensure that it is safe to drink.  Once the process completed, the community will be advised that it is once again able to consume the water being delivered to their homes.

A bottled water distribution center has been established at the Little Current Public Works Shop located at 27 Gammie Street, next to the NEMI Recreation Center.  This distribution Center will run from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the period of the Drinking Water Advisory. Residents attending the distribution center will be provided with bottled water for the duration of the Drinking Water Advisory.  Potable water is available at the Sheguindah water treatment plant through an outside service where residents can fill their own water jugs and other containers for their personal use.

The Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands is taking all necessary steps to ensure the supply of safe drinking water to our residents.  As of this time water in the distribution system can be used for non-consumptive purposes such as the operation of toilets.

As new information becomes available it will be shared with the public by our staff and  through social media and the local radio stations.
