The eternal question of why does the bridge swing

Is it the have nots paying for the have yachts?

To the Expositor:

At the Gore Bay farmers’ market, I asked a lady why there is a swing bridge. Her immediate response was “the tall boats.”

Is this the correct answer?   If this is the right answer, who will pay for a swing bridge to access Killarney?  The “have nots or the have yachts,” a phrase coined by a Canadian politician.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Manitoulin swing bridge at Little Current is in place due to the North Channel being a “navigatable waterway”  and swings on demand for commercial vessels as well as the usual hourly swings.
