Press Release — THROUGH WINDS & WHISPERS

PERIVALE—‘Through Winds and Whispers: New Original Works of Artist Jay Favot,’ will open on Saturday, August 10 and continue to August 16 at Perivale Gallery, 1320 Perivale Road East, Spring Bay, on Saturday, August 10.

Mr. Favot will be present at the gallery to greet guests and friends from 1 – 4 pm on August 10.

“‘Winds and Whispers’ is about the changing times of day and how weather can affect and shape our Canadian landscapes,” Perivale Gallery curator Shannon McMullan said. “These paintings portray moments of calm and contrasting moments of high energy with winds and open water. It is also related to the timelessness of these Georgian Bay, Killarney and Sudbury area landscapes and all they have weathered. The sights and sounds are familiar to those who have experienced them.”

Mr. Favot’s show also has pieces in a variety of sizes that celebrate the changing of seasons and local scenes such as Ramsey Lake, Copper Cliff and Killarney that are familiar to people who grew up in the Sudbury area.

Mr. Favot received the 2020 Sudbury Celebration of the Arts award for Outstanding Artist – Mid-Career, has been featured as “Artist to Collect” in Arabella, Canadian Art, Architecture Design, Canada’s foremost art magazine. A 16-page spread celebrated Jay’s outstanding talent throughout North America and beyond and is a past recipient of the Peg Forbes Award and Committee’s Choice Award at the annual La Cloche Art Show.

He has also won the People’s Choice Award at Perivale Gallery’s annual “In the Spirit of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven Show” and figures prominently among the three awards each year.

Mr. Favot is a recently retired educator who is now focused and driven to strive harder and better in his art full-time. His inspirations have come from a variety of sources, including Ontario, Quebec and Maritime landscapes and cityscapes, as well as taking a fresh view of the ordinary moments of life, with both people and things. “To see someone make that connection to your art is always great,” s the artist says. “It has been a conscious effort to vary subjects and style of art over the years. My life as a full-time artist is at hand …. Something I have dreamed of my whole life.”

Mr. Favot’s artwork can be found in many private collections in Canada and he is represented by Perivale Gallery and the website. His works will be at Perivale Gallery until September 15.

Perivale Gallery’s hours are 10 am to 5 pm daily until September 15.
