Manitoulin Health Centre Auxiliary News

The following is a report of 2023-24 MHC Auxiliary activities.

President Dawn Orr gave the president’s report at our annual meeting in May. Here are some of her comments. “It’s been an eventful year full of traditions and new adventures. We have continued with the high school bursaries, both for Wikwemikong and MSS for continued education in a health-related field. Fundraising has been very successful with the cookie walk, Rockathon and the ham dinner. We were so successful we were able to provide a cheque to the hospital for the life signs monitor. Thank you to all the conveners who did awesome jobs and to all members who went out of their way to support the auxiliary and to the executive who were always there with their support and hard work and made it all happen. I just want to say thank you!”

Thank you, Dawn for your report and the dedication you show in all matters pertaining to the Auxiliary.

Elections were held at the annual meeting. The slate of officers remains the same. Dawn Orr is president, Carole Labelle is vice-president, Debbie Heise is secretary and Marilee Hore is treasurer. There will probably be some unique fundraising activities in the year ahead.

The tuck cart and rip-it tickets are closed for the month of August. Dental bags, care bags and headsets will continue to be distributed. You can still support our efforts to raise money for patient services. Donations are accepted at admitting for the auxiliary, the In Memoriam Fund (specify auxiliary) the showcase is open; coin boxes are in many businesses; and book sales continue at our space at the NEMI Farmers’ Market.

Volunteerism is waning in many organizations. Groups everywhere are being challenged to recruit new members to give of their time and talents to benefit others. The Auxiliary, now in its 79th year would appreciate new volunteers to continue a tradition of caring that has touched hundreds of lives.

Our next regular meeting is at 7 pm on September16 at the United Church in Little Current. Come and join us.

Sincere wishes for a happy, healthy summer!

Don’t forget the sunscreen!
