MANITOULIN—The Island Singers will once again present their annual Christmas concert, bringing the joy of music and the holiday season to audiences in both Little Current and Mindemoya.
This year’s production, ‘The Winter Rose,’ will incorporate both traditional and contemporary carols that reflect the timeless magic of the Christmas season.
‘The Winter Rose’ will be directed by Dorothy Anstice and feature piano accompanist Holly Scott and violinist Ashlyn Cooper, in addition to solos by Heather Theismeijer and Patrick Therrien.
“The Island Singers have almost doubled in numbers this year, which is very exciting,” Ms. Anstice told The Expositor. “We have a lot of new singers and will be performing some big pieces such as Mozart’s ‘Regina Coeli’ (Queen of Heaven), with a solo from Heather Theismeijer.”
“One of our new members, Ashlyn, is a lovely violinist and will be performing Caccini’s ‘Ave Maria’,” continued Ms. Anstice. “The Island Singers will also be performing the ‘Advent Prayer,’ which will feature a solo from Ashlyn.”
Ms. Anstice revealed some of the other songs in the program, including ‘Joy to the World,’ ‘What Child Is This?’ and ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High.’
“There will also be a trio consisting of Karen Doughty, Ann-Marie Scott and Chris Theismeijer, who will be singing a set of three Christmas carols,” added Ms. Anstice.
With such a fabulous lineup, ‘The Winter Rose,’ named after one of the songs in the program by Joseph Martin, is sure to be a must-see Christmas concert this holiday season.
“It is the perfect way to set your spirits for Christmas with an evening of beautiful music,” concluded Ms. Anstice.
‘The Winter Rose’ will be performed Sunday, December 1 at 7 pm at the Little Current United Church and Monday, December 2 at 7 pm at the Mindemoya Missionary Church. Tickets are $12 and will be available at the door.
