SHESHEGWANING FIRST NATION—With the recent resignation of a member of council, the Sheshegwaning First Nation held a nomination meeting and will be holding an election to fill the current vacancy on council.
Recently, Jennifer Sampson resigned from her position on council.
In order to fill the vacant councillor position, a nomination meeting was held in the community on June 8. At that meeting, nine people were nominated.
Cynthia Behm, electoral officer, told The Expositor that six candidates have been nominated and have let their name stand in the election for the vacant council position. They include Joe Shinos, Kaeley Genereux McLean, Robin Malley, Christopher Endanawas, Joey Laford Jr. and Deanna Sampson.
Ms. Behm noted that all those candidates who had been nominated had until June 13 to indicate if they would let their name stand for the election for councillor. The election will take place on Saturday, July 20.
