MANITOULIN—The loss of a father, husband and good friend is always hard, but even more so when that loss is due to a tragic death at the hands of an impaired driver. This weekend members of the Redrum Motorcycle Club, Spirit Island Chapter gathered for a memorial ride across Manitoulin for their friend Jeff Robson and to raise money for his wife Denny and sons Logan and Dylan.
“We usually have our regular Island chapter run on Labour Day Weekend, but we felt it was important to honour our brother Jeff, it will be a year June 2 that he passed on,” said club president Robbie Shawana.
There were 21 members of the club on hand for the run that, in addition to travelling the breadth of the Island, the Redrum members dropped in to the Aundeck Omni Kaning Powwow, before heading back to the Shawana home for a dinner.
“There will be no alcohol,” noted Mr. Shawana, “given how Jeff died.”
With the coming of summer weather, two-wheeled vehicles, both motorized and non, will be sharing the road. The Expositor joins with Redrum members in asking that drivers stay especially vigilant for those harder to see vehicles when travelling the roads—and don’t drink and drive. It only takes a split second for a family to lose their loved one and it should never happen to such a senseless and preventable cause.
“We were able to raise $1,219.00 for his wife Denny,” said Mr. Shawana. “It was an honour to have Denny and sons Logan and Dylan partake in the ride.”
