MINDEMOYA—The Mindemoya Thunder Under 15 hockey team has won the Manitoulin Island Minor Hockey Association (MMHA) playoff championship.
In a fantastic, tightly contested final with M’Chigeeng, the Mindemoya team won the third and final game of their final series by a 3-1 score on Monday, March 4 in front of a packed stands at the M’Chigeeng First Nation arena.
The two teams had split the first two games of the best two out of three final, with Mindemoya winning the opening game at home 3-2, February 26. Game two was played in M’Chigeeng on February 7, with Mindemoya winning 5-3.
The Mindemoya Thunder won all its regular season games (having lost a game to Little Current in a tournament held in Sault Ste. Marie earlier this season) but had not lost a league game until the first game of the finals against M’Chigeeng.
