The days are getting longer, and March Break is almost here! Team Fergmeijer wishes all students and teachers a well-deserved break next week.

National Pancake Day was on Wednesday, February 28 this year and we nearly flipping forgot about it! We weren’t sure we were going to admit to forgetting and kept waffling back and forth over putting it in the column this week. It was a bit of a sticky situation, but in true Fergmeijer fashion, we have for you a hearty serving of pancake puns. You batter believe there are some really good ones to sink your teeth into this year. Here’s hoping none of the jokes fall flat.

The next Manitoulin Streams Youth Rangers event is just around the corner! We are so thankful to everyone who has been working so hard to keep the rink up and running during this crazy winter season!

What do you call a vampire who eats pancakes? Count Spatula.

Given the unseasonably warm winter, it is possible we might see the iconic Sandhill Cranes arriving early this year. Will you be the first to hear the majestic coo of the cranes? Email any sightings to fergmeijer@gmail.com to participate in our annual Sandhill Crane challenge!

We wanted to surprise our Manitoulin Mom with some homemade pancakes (in part to butter her up so she’d let us borrow her car), but we must have gotten the recipe wrong, because they were absolute crepe. Have a great week!

We have experienced some amazing weather. The temperature went up to 10 degrees C. It was hot and sunny. Then the temperature dropped precipitously to well below zero. We had thunder, lightning, high winds and ice, rain and snow. Rose had a tree come down in her yard but was thankful it did not hit her house. Who knows what is going to happen next.

How are your seed orders doing? I ordered some fruit trees.  My husband is wondering where they are going to go and of course he knows it will be his job to plant them.

We learned a new game called Wizard. Our friend had us over one day last week to go over the rules. A couple of days later she, Rick, myself and another couple played this new game. The others had played it many times. We had a great afternoon and lunch together. When the rules were explained to us it sounded complicated, but once we started playing, it was not hard at all. So, if you get a chance to play it, try it out, it’s fun.

Earlier in the week we were visiting friends at another house for a euchre game, coffee and brownies. The brownie were excellent and very little was left at the end of the evening.

The Fun Day was a great success. Now the hall is quiet except for Friday night euchre games, but the next big event will be the Quad Run in May. Always a great deal of fun, I am looking forward to it.

This Sunday the church will be open for its monthly winter meeting and we’ll all get together at the hall afterwards for a lunch. We had a great time last month and are looking forward to Sunday.
