Off Their Rock, Hockey!

Kohyn Eshkawkogan and his North York Rangers are climbing the rankings and are now 4th in Canada (M.H.R.) and in the OHL Cup Top 10 Rankings.

The Rangers recently had big wins over the historic Toronto Marlies 7-1 and the prominent Toronto Young Nationals 17-1! Kohyn picked up one goal and five assists in those two games.

He now has a total of 46 points (9 G, 37 A) in 58 games. His defensive prowess and offensive contributions are also captured by a noteworthy plus-minus statistic which has him leading the NYR team with an impressive plus 66! He is also rapidly climbing the various OHL prospect lists and is expected to be a high draft pick in April’s OHL draft.

Jack Bridgeman kept his hot hand going as the Nickel City Sons U15AA returned to league play last week. In a 3 game set against the North Bay U15AA Trappers last weekend, Jack notched both markers in a 2-1 win, netted a hat trick in a 5-0, scored the winner on a beautiful victory and potted a pair in a 4-1 win.  Up next were the Copper Cliff Reds U15AA on Wednesday, where Jack’s backhand pass from Captain Adrian Potvin resulted in a 2-0 victory, the first win for NCS after 5 ties between the teams. Jacob Beaudet, familiar to those who attended the NOHA Christmas Skills camp over the break where he was goalie coach, had an outstanding game, earning the shutout.

Abby Roque, a Wahnapitae First Nation member and a US National team member, is also on the roster for the New York entry in the inaugural season of the PWHL. Abby has six points in nine games for the yet-unnamed team in the Professional Women’s Hockey League. Her Dad, Jim, was the coach for the Lake Superior State University hockey team and then a pro scout.

Tying the knot fishing!

I’m sure that fiancées Carly and Brian were pleased with the colder weather this week. Their ‘Tying the Knot’ Fishing Derby-type stag and doe is in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that they have safe ice for the March 2-3 festivities.

There are still tickets available and the pair have amassed over $6000 in prizes for people who want to fish or not! Novice angler entries are $20 per ticket and are for anyone who just wants to fish, no fishing experience needed. Advanced angler entries are $40 per ticket. They are for those with experience fishing and more advanced raffle tickets are $10 each to get entered into the draw for raffle prizes. Each fishing ticket also gets you an entry into the raffle.

Among their prize haul is an Otter Vortex Pro Cabin Thermal Hub Shelter (2-3 people) up for grabs in the advanced division. Guided local fishing tours, gift cards and other fishing supplies for the novice. BBQ and patio chairs, Yeti cooler, tickets to either the Sudbury Wolves or Sudbury Five games. Check out Brian Stapleton’s Facebook page for ticket info.
