ESPANOLA—The new seniors’ housing unit in Little Current will have signage come this spring thanks to a generous donation of $25,000 from the Lily Fielding Foundation. The donation was presented to the Manitoulin Sudbury District Services Board (DSB) at the end of the board’s January 11 meeting in Espanola in the form of a letter from Mac Sinclair of Sinclair and Sinclair Barristers and Solicitors representing the foundation.
Mr. Sinclair noted that members of the Fielding, Wallace and Perdue families had noticed the lack of signage while attending the opening ceremonies this past summer for the eight-unit housing development located above Low Island Park. The seniors’ housing development was made possible, in part, due to the donation of land from the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands. The Lily Fielding Foundation had previously donated the property to the town in the hopes that it could be utilized to expand seniors housing (although the land donation to the town came with no strings attached).
DSB CAO Donna Stewart noted the generous donation and replied to Mr. Sinclair with a letter of thanks.
“I am confirming that on this date the DSB has received a generous donation in the amount of $25,000 for the purpose of signage at Fielding Place in Little Current,” wrote Ms. Stewart. “Tenants, staff and the board of directors would like to extend their heartfelt thank you and appreciation of this generous donation to the Fielding, Wallace and Perdue families. We will advise once the undertaking is completed in the spring as we would appreciate you sharing that with the families.”
