Legion Branch 514 Gore Bay gifts funds to Sea Cadet Corps #348

MANITOULIN—The Manitoulin Navy League of the #348 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps has received a significant donation from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 514 in Gore Bay.

“It’s fantastic,” stated Denis Blake, a member of the Manitoulin Navy League after a cheque presentation of $1,000 was made at a Manitoulin Sea Cadets parade night January 8. “Basically, the Legion had contacted us requesting us to set up a time for the RCL branch to make the donation,” said Mr. Blake.

“On behalf of the Legion I presented a donation in the amount of $1,000 to Denis Blake of the Navy League and the Manitoulin Sea Cadets,” said Jim Woods, immediate past president of the RCL Branch 514. He said the Legion donation came from the branch poppy account, as the Legion is allowed to use 20 percent of the funds in the account to assist the Sea Cadets. The Legion has made previous donations to the group in the past.

“The RCL branch has always been so helpful and supportive of the Sea Cadets,” said Mr. Blake. “The Cadet Corps would like to thank Branch 514 Royal Canadian Legion for this generous donation and their continued support of the local cadet corps.”
