SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS—Shortly before 2 am on January 4 the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 at Birch Lake Road.
Investigation revealed that a commercial motor vehicle struck a pedestrian. A 33-year-old person from Sables-Spanish Rivers was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The highway was closed for approximately seven hours after the accident.
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team.
