OPP, MTO AND MNRF CONDUCT JOINT RIDE

(MANITOULIN ISLAND, ON) – A Joint Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program was conducted on Highway 6 on Manitoulin Island as part of a traffic initiative.

On November 24, 2023, members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), North East Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME), North East Region OPP Snowmobile, All Terrain Vehicle, Vessell Enforcement Team (SAVE) in conjunction with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and Conservation Officers from Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) conducted a five-hour R.I.D.E. program on Highway 6.

The R.I.D.E. program saw 750 motor vehicles and approximately 200 hunters. The OPP and MTO issued three Highway Traffic Act tickets, which were related to Commercial Motor Vehicle inspections, five warnings and 31 Mandatory Alcohol Screenings.

Conservation Officers conducted five investigations, which resulted in the seizing of eight deer, one rifle with ammunition, six deer tags and issued three Provincial Offence Notices.

The OPP would like to remind motorists that when you operate a motor vehicle, you have a responsibility to keep yourself, your passengers and other road users safe.
