MSS Mustangs hockey team win home opener

LITTLE CURRENT—The Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) Mustangs got their season off to a great start with a one-nothing November 8 home opener victory over the Lasalle Lancers at the Little Current arena.

The Mustangs scored early to take the lead and then held off a determined Lancer effort through the next two periods to take the win.

“I thought they did pretty good,” said hockey fan Sandy McGillivray of Little Current. “The other team had a lot more players on their bench, but our side held up really well. I bet they were some tired after that game.”

The Mustangs goal was scored by #9 Colin Hicks, assisted by #16 Lucas Mackan and #22 Hunter Abotosaway.

The Mustangs got a bit of a rest the next night, as the game against their next set of opponents, the MacDonald Cartier Panthers the following evening, was cancelled.

The MSS Mustang hockey team roster for 2013-2014 includes #1 Jayden Windell, #4 Brayden Newton, #6 Michael Niven, #7 Jacob Moreau, #8 Tyler King, #9 Colin Hicks, #10 Matt Craig, #11 Tristan Argue, #12 Cole Drumond, #16 Lucas Dumond, #19 Justice Corbiere, #22 Hunter Abotosaway, #30 Jordon Cristos, #44 Cole Lentier, #68 Brett Varey, #77 Sheldon Campbell, #88 Thomas Hayden and #96 Tyon Francis. The Mustangs also play in Little Current on Friday, November 29 at 7 pm against the St. Benedict Bears. The Mustangs will play in M’Chigeeng on Saturday, November 30 at 7 pm, taking on the L’Horizon Eagles.
