Welcome back everyone! We have had a very well spirited last couple of weeks here at MSS. On Halloween we had great participation of all the students and staff here at the school. There were lots of really creative and spooky costumes. Last Tuesday MSS had a pep rally in the gym, and all students were given the opportunity to buyout at one o’clock to watch our girls play an amazing game of basketball. This coming Saturday, Manitoulin Secondary School will be having a Christmas craft sale. We encourage everyone to come out and have a good time!
On Thursday, October 31, everyone was asked to dress up and show there school spirit. There was great participation in this. Lots of students and staff members dressed up in costumes. At lunch students council hosted a pumpkin carving contest. Congratulations to Maggie Strain and Mikayla Farquhar on winning the contest, and to Carly Newlands and Brittany Wall on coming in second! Later that night students were asked to take part in Halloween for Hunger, going door to door asking for non-perishable food items rather than treats. Thank you to all those who helped to collect canned goods.
On Friday, November 1 during the power outage, Three Fires hosted a huge potluck lunch for the entire school. Everyone was asked to bring in lots of different dishes and treats. The lunch was a great success, everyone was treated to amazing food and great memories on a miserable and rainy day. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible.
On Tuesday, November 5 our girls’ basketball team played an amazing game against Central Algoma Secondary School. Mustangs were given the chance to buyout at one o’clock for two dollars to watch the game cheer our team on! Everyone was on the edge of their seats as the game was sent into double overtime. Without a doubt our girls took the win with a score of 46-41 against CASS. The gym was packed full of cheering Mustangs! Congratulations to the girls’ basketball team, and to all the Mustangs who were in the stands cheering our team on!
This Monday was Remembrance Day. I hope all of you took the time to remember those who fought for our freedom. Manitoulin Secondary School had its annual Remembrance day assembly where all Mustangs took the time to remember those who died for our country. Mustangs showed their spirit by wearing a poppy above their heart, and taking a moment of silence at the beginning of the day to honour the solders who fought for us.
To wrap things up I would like to ask everyone to come out on Saturday, November 16 to the craft sale hosted by Manitoulin Secondary School and help to support the school’s Best Buddies Program. Thank you again to everyone who participated in the school spirit days, and helped to make those days happen. Keep up the good work Mustangs! Until next time, I hope you all have a fabulous week.
