MINDEMOYA—The Mindemoya Hospital emergency room department remained open on a 24 hour basis this past Monday-Tuesday, despite an announcement last Friday morning that it would close for a 16 hour period beginning Monday, October 9, at 5 pm.
A public service announcement on the closure had been released by the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) late Friday morning. However, at around 1:45 pm that afternoon it was further announced by MHC officials that the Ministry of Health had provided funds to allow the MHC to maintain 24 hour coverage at the emergency department in Mindemoya.
MHC administration continues to work on solutions to resolve the potential gaps in service due to the shortage of doctors and locums.
