Ramsey Tour-ists!

The annual Ramsey Tour has been a destination for Manitoulin runners for a long time! It is always the right time to use as a training run for the cross country season. Coach Gerry Holliday had a small group of MSS Mustangs take in the 5K race. Brodie Pennie finished way out in front of several of his future races! The speedster finished second overall, missing first by five seconds in an astounding time of 16:07! Congratulations as well to fellow Mustangs Xavi Mara, Mackenzie Green, Alan Wilkin, Matthew Wilkin and T.J. Green who all had strong efforts.

Aurel Fox–Recollet, having just made the Laurentian University Voyageur team, cracked the 18 minute barrier to finish 11th overall!

Hats off to other known Island runners. I hope I didn’t miss anyone. Way to go, Sara Odjig, Simon Fessenden, Mila Odjig and Steve Fessenden.

Wiikwemkoong ball

Wiikwemkoong fastball/sports organizer Gerald Baibomcowai has had to adjust his fastball schedule as there have been a couple of broken lights down at the ballfield. As our days are getting a lot shorter, he has had to postpone games due to safety concerns.

They just started back up this past Sunday and are hoping for the lights to get fixed soon otherwise it will have to be more work-around! Gerry plans on finishing up by Thanksgiving. The current standing are: the Sons of Pitches in first; second, Kaboni Tigers; third, Lumberjacks; and fourth, Quanja.

Gerry is also organizing a youth co-ed slow pitch tournament for the Wassa Naabin Youth Centre. Interestingly, it will be for youth 15 – 18 years old on October 6-7th. Entry is free. Stay tuned for more details.

Tour De Force!

Hats off to all of the people that made it happen and those that participated and donated to the Marc Hovingh Tour de Force Heroes in Life Cycling event over the weekend in Mindemoya. The fundraiser was for the OPP Youth Foundation. There were three loops of 34, 80 and 140km lengths.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique led out the 140km loop that featured an unbelievable average speed of 38 kph! If you would like to help the cause there are t-shirts for sale. You can contact Marie Ford or Steve Redmond for more information.

Dance Manitoulin!

Candice Irwin of Body Stories Dance Instruction has sent out a reminder that the fall dance session is just a few weeks away and classes are filling up fast! Also, they have got two great free workshops happening this weekend to help get them in the dancing mood.

As part of our assistant training program they are inviting students aged 3-6 to join them for a free introductory creative movement class. They will learn about body awareness, musicality, movement quality and dance vocabulary through imagination and creative play.

It is taking place Saturday, September 16 from 1:30 – 2:15 pm at the Kagawong Park Centre and pre-registration is required. To do so visit their website or email them at: bodystoriesdance@gmail.com.
