MANITOULIN—This Halloween season there are lots of spooktacular events for the whole family to enjoy on Manitoulin Island, from scary movie nights to haunted houses and trails.
The Halloween fun starts this Thursday, October 24 with the Centennial Museum of Sheguiandah hosting its annual Scary Story Contest. This year’s themes include the swing bridge, horror movies and ‘the house on the corner.’ The reading reception and awards will take place at the museum at 7 pm.
On Friday, October 25 the Manitoulin Panthers will be holding a Halloween skate at the Northeast Town Recreation Centre starting at 7 pm. Admission is $5 and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.
The Green Bay Haunted Hall will be open this Friday, October 25 and Saturday October 26 from 7 to 9 pm. Prepare for the fright of your life with a bigger outdoor portion this year and more special effects. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The Green Ball Hall is located at 4482 Bidwell Road.
Also on Saturday at 1 pm there will be a Children’s Halloween Howl Party at the Centennial Museum with games, goodies and prizes. Wear your costume for the costume parade!
Starting at 6 pm on Saturday, there will be a Fright Night at the Flat Rock Entertainment Centre (the Country Fest grounds on Harbour View Road).
There will be a costume contest with prizes to kick off the night, followed by the movie ‘Monsters Inc.’ at 7 pm, the original ‘Carrie’ at 8:30 pm and ‘The Possession’ (2012) at 10:15 pm.
There is no cost for Fright Night, but donations will be collected to help cover the cost of movie licences, with any extra funds being donated to the Manitoulin Food Bank. Those who attend are also encouraged to bring canned goods for the food bank.
Dance the night away Saturday night at the Little Current Legion’s Halloween Dance from 8 pm to 1 am. Admission is $5 at the door.
There will also be a dance at the Assiginack Curling Club from 9 pm until 1 am with prizes being awarded for best dressed, best comic and most original.
Strut your stuff at the Anchor Inn Hotel’s Monstrous Halloween Party or at the Crystal Shawanda Live and Acoustic Halloween Bash at Rainbow Ridge Bar and Grill. Concert tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
From Monday, October 28 to Wednesday, October 30, Debajehmujig, in partnership with the Burns Wharf Theatre Players, will be holding a haunted walk titled, ‘Whatever you do don’t let go of the rope.’
The event will start at the Assiginack Museum at 125 Arthur Street in Manitowaning and travel to the Debajehmujig Creation Centre. The cost is $5 a person, with the proceeds going towards the two theatre companies.
With two such accomplished theatre groups collaborating, the event is sure to be spooktacular!
