Gratitude expressed to Central Manitoulin fire department

Burpee and Mills fire chief notes the valuable contributions of neighbouring department

To the Expositor:

This is a letter to The Expositor explaining my position as fire chief of Burpee and Mills.

I am consumed with a variety of duties. My duties involve initiating mutual aid with other fire departments such as the case on August 5, 2023. I had the privilege of having Central Manitoulin assist with the bush fire. Without Central Manitoulin Fire Department this fire would still be an ongoing concern. They provided all the firehose from four of their trucks. They allowed their equipment to remain onsite overnight to ensure it was available in the event of a flareup. The remainder of the equipment was returned to their fire hall in Spring Bay on Tuesday.

So, Mutual Aid is a piece of equipment the Island needs and works in our best allies when it comes to fighting fires, because we all live on one Island and don’t need it to burn down.

Rick Graham, fire chief
Burpee and Mills Township.
