MANITOWANING—In the summer of 2023, the Township of Assiginack received a $78,800 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for the township to acquire professional track and field and fitness equipment to support year-round programming, fitness training, and host Island-wide competitions for all ages.
“This professional grade equipment will definitely help increase local community fitness and support local athletes of all ages,” stated Assiginack CAO Alton Hobbs.
“This 100 percent OTF-funded initiative from the province will allow us to support our community at large in various track and field events to cross-fitness training while providing an array of athletic fitness training equipment for many other sports of interest,” said Mr. Hobbs. “We purchased all the stuff at the beginning of the summer and much of it has already been used, for instance with the Island elementary school track and field championships.”
