Midway coming to town for Haweater Weekend festivities

LITTLE CURRENT—It means the summer is halfway through: Haweater Weekend is upon us once again, and the Little Current Lions Club has a little something for everyone in their busy schedule of events (and yes, that includes fireworks)!

Folks driving by the NEMI recreation centre will see a welcome sight. Gable Concessions is busy setting up a midway for the festivities, the first Haweater midway in many years. The midway is open Friday through Sunday. Please see the schedule of events on Page 19 of this newspaper.

The popular Carver Kings are making a return to Haweater beginning today, August 2 at The Port (across from the Beer Store).

There are many opportunities to dance this Haweater, including a Classic Country Dance Friday night, a double-sided Hawfest dance Saturday night, Manitoulin Brewing Company Haweater Block Party Saturday evening, music sunset cruises aboard Le Grand Heron, live entertainment at the cenotaph in downtown Little Current, line dancing and, of course, the Sunday night Street Dance.

There is kids’ fun galore, including face painting, a soapbox derby, cardboard boat races, laser tag, inflatables, children’s games and special appearances by Frozen’s Olaf as well as the Minions from Despicable Me.

And don’t forget to check out the Legion barbecue, Haweater horse show, car show, the Huron Bass Tour (new this year), Haweater ball tournament and beer gardens and so much more!

Haweater Weekend will conclude with its famous Sunday evening fireworks display, Thunder Over the Channel, which has received special dispensation to go ahead regardless of the fire ban. (Firefighters will be on hand to water down the site as need be as they are fired off over the channel from Goat Island.)

For the full schedule of events, please see the full-page ad on Page 19.

Happy Haweater!
