MANITOULIN–As the Fall Seatbelt Campaign comes to an end on Sunday, October 13, 2013, the Ontario Provincial Police gear up for Operation Impact, which begins Friday, October 11 and runs through Monday, October 14.
Operation Impact is a national program to raise the public’s awareness to the issues on our highways. This special weekend is designed to remind people that an essential part of the law enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways.
STATS:
The following are stats from the Fall Seatbelt Campaign within the Manitoulin OPP from September 26 until October 10, 2013:
Every person that sits behind the steering wheel of a motor vehicle has a responsibility to ensure that he or she and its passengers arrive to their destination safely.
The OPP will continue to focus on what is known as the “Big Four:” impaired driving, aggressive driving, seatbelt use and distracted driving. The Big Four are the leading causes to injuries and deaths in motor vehicle collisions. That is why the OPP will be visible this long weekend educating motorists on traffic laws. “We must all work collectively to end the carnage and heartbreak that result from these preventable tragedies,” says Deputy Commissioner Larry Beechey of the Ontario Provincial Police.
Let’s do our part to ensure a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend!
