MSS Kids in the Halls

Welcome back! It is almost June, and I couldn’t be more excited. That is until–like most of the student body–I remember I have exams. Nevertheless, there are a bunch of fun activities in store for students to help get them through this stressful time and ease them into summer vacation.

SHARE/Go Green is hosting a meme contest! Students are asked to caption a funny picture of a dog in a no-mow zone. A no-mow zone is a place where grass grows freely to create a safe habitat for different animals without the threat of it being destroyed. Last year, MSS integrated a no-mow zone and this meme contest is encouraging others to do the same!

Weekly scholarship workshops are being hosted for students of all grades to give them a leg up in the sometimes-daunting scholarship application process. These meetings will run nearly until the end of the school year with each day discussing different topics. Last week the topics included opportunities and next steps for those looking at scholarships. This week building a portfolio will be touched on.

The MSS Robotics team is hosting a free pancake dinner in appreciation for the community and their support in getting Manitoulin Metal to the World Championships. The dinner will run from 6 to 8 pm on June 1. There will be a silent auction, a robot demonstration and a re-creation of the team’s internationally recognized Impact presentation!

A reminder that there are five spots left on the annual Stratford trip in September. For more information contact Ms. Bauer!

MSS is looking into leadership at the school next year! Student council sent out an interest form on Google Classroom for interested students. Applications are due on Thursday, May 25.

The Three Fires Confederacy hosted a powwow on Wednesday, May 24. Students were invited during the last two periods of the day to watch and participate in dances, drumming and much more in this annual celebration of Indigenous culture. The event was extraordinary, and I’m sure that many students and community members would agree.

Thursday, May 25 is the Northern Lights All Grades Prom. Tickets have been sold at lunch for the past two weeks and will continue to be sold at the door of the dance. Students are sure to have a wonderful night under the stars with lots of dancing, food, friends and fun!

That is all for this week! Until next time, go Mustangs, go!
