UCCM Police issue public safety notification regarding high risk offender

M’CHIGEENG–The United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service has released information to the public pertaining to a high-risk offender who has recently moved to M’Chigeeng.

The UCCM Police is advising residents that Anthony Troy Debassige, age 38, is living in M’Chigeeng. He has previous convictions for assault on police, assault, fail to appear, fail to apply with a probation order, fail to attend court, mischief under $5,000, sexual assault and sexual interference.

Upon completing his custodial sentence on September 26, 2013, Mr. Debassige entered into an 810.1 Criminal Code recognizance to abide by certain conditions through the Gore Bay Court on September 27, 2013.

Specific details surrounding the recognizance are as follows: Mr. Debassige must have no contact, including communication by any means, with a person under the age of 16 years with the exception that the offender may communicate with his biological child through the Internet if free from the effects of alcohol and drugs; cannot use the Internet or other digital network unless under the immediate supervision of an adult; remain within the Districts of Manitoulin or Sudbury unless a prior written permission of the Ontario Court of Justice is obtained; remain in his residence daily between the hours of 11 pm and 6 am; abstain from the consumption of alcohol or non-prescription drugs; report to the UCCM Police 24 hours in advance of any changes of address or employment; cannot be alone with a person under the age of 16-years-old; attend and actively participate in treatment for alcohol and substance abuse and provide proof of compliance to the UCCM Police; not be in the presence of any woman or child while that woman or child is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other intoxicants; and report the name and address of any person with whom he enters into an intimate relationship.

Mr. Debassige is described by police as a First Nations male, 5’9″ tall, approximately 221 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
