Luke Wassegijig and Wiikwemkoong Tourism a finalist for national award

WIIKWEMKOONG—Luke Wassegijig and Wiikwemkoong Tourism have been recognized as one of Canada’s best!

Wiikwemkoong Tourism has been named as a finalist for the exceptional industry leadership award at the Indigenous Tourism Canada Tourism Conference in Winnipeg.

“It’s invigorating to see so many nominations representing a very impressive and diverse group of Indigenous operators from coast to coast to coast,” said Keith Henry, chief executive officer and president of Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC). “Along with Indigenous Tourism Manitoba (ITM), we will be celebrating the outstanding achievements of so many Indigenous entrepreneurs.”

Among the finalists are Wiikwemkoong Tourism and Mr. Wassegijig. The award is the exceptional industry leadership award. This award, “recognizes a business or organization leading the way through the demonstration of excellence in all aspects of its business such as marketing campaigns, Trip Advisor reviews, revenues generated, low staff turnover and repeat customers.”

ITAC is a national organization representing the interests of Indigenous tourism operators from across the country and annually bestows awards on the best in the country.

This year, the awards gala will be held in conjunction with Indigenous Tourism Manitoba in Winnipeg on March 9.

ITAC reported it received more than 60 nominations for this year’s awards. To qualify, nominees must be majority Indigenous owned/controlled and provide tourism experiences or tourism related services.
