The January meeting was busy and productive. Read on for the details.
President Dawn Orr welcomed all and expressed greetings for the New Year! Items discussed included regular reports from representatives, follow-ups regarding events, ongoing fundraisers, special thanks, new financial decisions and a future “Rocking Time.”
The coin box collections over the past years have been very successful. Many thanks to the businesses who continue to display the boxes. John Diebel is the new representative for coin box collections. Thanks to all who drop off coins and bills! It has been a mainstay over the past years when fundraising was very limited. Activities like book sales, showcase, In Memoriam donations and special events have kept us going over the period of suspension of services. Hopefully we can resume other activities like the reopening of the tuck cart room. Remember that monies raised by the auxiliary are designated for patient services.
Patients from many communities across the island benefit from patient services. Anyone who is interested in joining the auxiliary is welcome. Events could be held in other communities if there were members to help us out. To become a member call Lin Diebel at 705-936-7136.
The Christmas Café was a financial success. Not many attended but those who did enjoyed mouth-watering desserts, toe-tapping music and a silent auction.
Special thanks to Mark Green, Chris Bailey, Janice and Rainer Wenzel and auxiliary members who participated in the challenging removal of all books from the Bank of Montreal shed. The non-members were acknowledged by the Goodwill representative for their efforts. As well, thanks to June McConnell and Debbie Heise for the distribution of polar fleece blankets to all in-patients at Christmas.
It’s time to talk money! Where do our donations go? In addition to ongoing spending, two special items were discussed, voted on and have become a reality.
A donation of $5,000 from In Memoriam was made towards the purchase of the new ECG machine. An additional $3,000 needs to be raised and the machine will be paid in full! Also, two $500 bursaries were presented to two MSS students who are going to study in the field of health sciences. Two new bursaries of $500 each are being awarded to students at Wasse-Abin in Wikwemikong to continue studies in health sciences. All students who receive bursaries are encouraged to do their best and receive some financial help.
The mandate to enhance and provide patient services is achieved by public support. Remember to stop by a coin box, make a memorial donation, buy from the showcase and support auxiliary events.
Here’s your chance to support! On February 25 from 10 am to 3 pm a Rock-a-Thon is being held at the United Church Hall in Little Current. Participants will need to collect pledges and possibly bring their own rocker. Details will be worked out at the February meeting. Call Carole Labelle (705-368-3376) for more information.
