WIKWEMIKONG–Wikwemikong Tribal Police, assisted by other area police forces, were busy last weekend, making three drug-related arrests in that community over the course of four days.
On Monday, September 9, members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service arrested a subject in the village of Wikwemikong after an investigation relating to the offence of possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA). As a result of the investigation, police seized a quantity of various prescription narcotics, including hydromorph contin, marijuana and cash.
The estimated street value of the seizure is $1,100.
A 24-year-old female of Wikwemikong was arrested and charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule I substance contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA, one count possession for the purpose of trafficking cannabis marihuana under three kgs contrary to section 5(2) CDSA, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was released on a promise to appear in Wikwemikong court on October 16 to answer to the charges.
On Friday, September 6, members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, Sudbury OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, Espanola Police Service and Greater Sudbury Police Service executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant in the village of Wikwemikong after an investigation relating to the offence of production of a controlled substance.
As a result of the investigation police seized methadone, marijuana and 64 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $64,000 and offence related property.
A 31-year-old female of Wikwemikong was arrested and charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule II substance under three kgs contrary to section 5(2) CDSA, one count production of a controlled substance Schedule II contrary to section 7(1) of CDSA, and possession of a controlled substance Schedule II contrary to section 4(1) of CDSA.
A 39-year-old male, also of Wikwemikong, was arrested and charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule II substance under three kgs contrary to section 5(2) CDSA, one count production of a controlled substance Schedule II contrary to section 7(1) of CDSA and possession of a controlled substance Schedule II contrary to section 4(1) of CDSA, and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule I substance contrary to section 5(2) of CDSA.
The two accused were released on a promise to appear in Wikwemikong Court on October 16 to answer to the charges.
These investigations are part of an ongoing initiative by members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, OPP, Sudbury Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, Greater Sudbury Police Service, UCCM Anishabek Police Service, Manitoulin OPP and Espanola Police Service to address the increase in crime and drug related activity.
