Humanity is better than segregation—something’s gotta give in 2023

To the Expositor:

This is a response to ‘Protecting children is commendable and necessary,’ ( January 18, Page 4).

As a child, I was very fortunate to attend a Tim Hortons Camp. My sister, 12 at the time, actually won the trip, however, after our Mum was notified she said, “that’s wonderful, but she’s not going alone.” To her ultimate surprise, they asked if my sister had any siblings and that’s where I came in. I got to tag along as happy camper number two and what a camp to remember! We travelled from Toronto to Calgary by plane then enjoyed a 10-day camp in Kananaskis, Alberta (all expenses included!).

I was always a huge advocate for Tim Hortons “Camp Day,” especially on those hot June days, buying coffees for the office and sharing my story. Since I became aware of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination requirement for said camps, I have boycotted the place. The reality is, if I was born in a different decade, my sister and I wouldn’t have been able to attend the camp because there is discrimination. There was and is segregation and Tim Hortons is fostering that. “Protecting children is commendable and necessary,” but if youth are vaccinated, isn’t it the vaccines’ job to protect them? If the vaccine does not do what it was marketed for, that is not the issue of the people who choose not to receive it. Canada would do well by joining the rest of the world by acknowledging Pfizer’s admission they knew their product never stopped transmission when they advertised you would save granny by getting it.

People need to understand individuals who did not take part in the shots are not the enemy. Everyone’s in agreement when it comes to not wanting to get sick from a virus or having a vaccine injury. May I remind you, last January even with vaccine passports in effect for months, there was a lock down. It didn’t matter if you had 0, 1, 2, 3 shots, everyone was on lockdown. So, something’s gotta give in 2023 and when I have to pay an extra two dollars for better coffee and less processed food while avoiding Timmies, so be it. I will not support the division and discrimination anymore. Denial and cognitive dissonance is unhelpful for the endemic. Humanity is better than segregation, let’s get back to it.

Sincerely,

Tara E. Ward
