OPP Press Release: Traffic stop leads to impaired charge

(ASSIGINACK TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 4, 2023, at approximately 3:43 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general law enforcement duties on Cardwell Street in Assiginack Township.

The officer observed a vehicle owned by a suspended driver and a traffic stop was conducted. It was determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. They were subsequently arrested and returned to detachment for further tests.

Tyson OTOSQUAIOB, 42-years-old, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory was charged with:
• Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
• Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor, contrary to section 42(1)(a) of the Liquor Licence and Control Act

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on January 18, 2023.
